Review – Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “Hot Potato Soup”

Hi everyone! Megan_Highwind here. This week’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. brought back the beloved Koenig brothers that fans of the show have come to know and love. Billy and Sam are hanging out at a bar having a good time playing games when they are suddenly attacked by the Watchdogs. The group captures Billy and Sam calls Coulson to let him know.

Coulson tells the other agents that Billy was the one given the mission of protecting the Darkhold from getting into the wrong hands. Sam then reveals that he was given the Darkhold by Billy and then passed it on to their sister, L.T. The crew goes to pick up L.T. who then reveals that the book was in the end given back to Billy after all. Billy hid the book inside of a S.H.I.E.L.D. base. Once the location of the Darkhold is revealed to the team, Coulson, LMD May, Daisy, and the Koenig siblings all travel to the location.

Meanwhile, however, the captured Billy is thrown into a holding cell by the Watchdogs. They also happen to be keeping Radcliffe in the exact same cell. Before the Watchdogs lead torture artist, Anton, is able to torture either Billy or Radcliffe to get the information on the Darkhold, Radcliffe speaks up and says that he has a device that can read Billy’s mind to tell them the location. Anton, Radcliffe, and the captured Billy all also head to the S.H.I.E.L.D. location after it is taken from Billy’s brain by Aida and Radcliffe’s machine.

Once they arrive on site, Coulson and the others are able to recover the book from the facility before Anton and the others appear. While doing so, Fitz and Simmons call in and tell the group that the May with them is a LMD. The pair was able to find this out with information from LMD Radcliffe. Before being destroyed, the LMD Radcliffe also tells Fitz that the real Radcliffe has been in contact with Fitz’s verbally abusive father. Coulson and Daisy are able to subdue the LMD May, but the Watchdogs then attack and are able to distract the group long enough for Radcliffe to get the Darkhold and get away.

Once back aboard their ship, the agents destroy all the LMDs, aside from the one of May. They are keeping that particular LMD in their possession to try to get information on the location of the real May. The episode then ends with Anton telling Radcliffe that he seeks to destroy Coulson as he has appeared to be involved in every alien crisis that has happened on the planet. As the Watchdogs hate the Inhumans, he is determined to stop the aliens from taking anymore control in the world.

In the end, this week’s episode was a bit on the slower side compared to some others but gave a lot of good setup for the weeks to come. Based upon Fitz and Simmons getting into LDM Radcliffe’s brain and seeing how human-like a brain was created by Aida and the Darkhold, it is obvious that the book is dangerous and can create incredibly powerful things. Considering how smart and selfish Radcliffe is, his control of a book with this type of power is truly terrifying for everyone else. Besides that, not only do the agents have to worry about Radcliffe and Aida but they also have to worry about Anton coming after Coulson and find a way to get back the real Agent May. Things are looking pretty bleak for Coulson and team so hopefully they can turn things around like they always do!
