Review – Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ” The Laws of Inferno Dynamics”

Happy Wednesday readers! This week was the fall finale of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the show did not disappoint! The episode starts with Eli Morrow revealing to his lackeys that the reason that he was in search of so much power was because he felt like he was undervalued. He was not given the same recognition as his co-workers and, coming from the area that he did, he wanted nothing more than to gain respect. Since he was never given what he thought that he deserved, he sought out the extra power to be noticed.

Daisy, Robbie, and Yo-Yo are put together as the “strike team” to go into the warehouse where Eli is gathering his powers to attempt to stop him while the other agents work down underground. Yo-Yo uses her powers to run into the building to try to see if she can scope out the area. Unbeknownst to her, the area catches on fire and starts to explode as she runs out of the building, barely escaping with her life. As Robbie is the resident fire expert, he walks into the burning building and goes to find Eli. Robbie is able to find Eli and the two get into a fight about why Eli is using his new-found power for evil purposes. Eli gets upset at Robbie and creates spikes that stab Robbie in the chest and hold him in place.

As the rest of the team is trying is trying to take Eli out of the equation, a bunch of earthquakes start happening. While at first being attributed to Daisy, it is soon apparent that Eli’s powers are what are causing this rift. Coulson goes into the warehouse to speak with Eli and angers him by telling him that the earthquakes are the fault of his misuse of power. Aida and the team set up a trap for Eli and as Coulson makes Eli angry, a portal is opened up and Robbie, instead of escaping the rift with the rest of the team, drags Eli with him into an unknown dimension. This appears to be the end of the Ghost Rider story, for now, but I can only imagine that Robbie will be back sooner rather than later.

Yo-Yo, May, Mack, and Mace are all involved with keeping Eli and his guards distracted long enough for Robbie to take Eli away. After the fight, Mack and Yo-Yo finally discuss their relationship and share a kiss. After tiptoeing around the subject for basically the whole season, the two finally decide to give their relationship a shot. After Daisy helps take the aftershock from the earthquakes caused by Eli, she throws herself into the air to release some of the tension from the quakes. Upon coming back to the ground, Daisy finds herself surrounded by reporters asking if she has returned to S.H.I.E.L.D. Mace shows up next to her and confirms that she is once again an agent and has been helping all along.

The end of the episode was fantastically done and completely unexpected. We hear an agent talking to Mace about Aida when Aida’s closet mysteriously opens. He hangs up the phone to go check out the situation and Aida appears behind him and snaps his neck. As we cut back into the scene we see Aida cleaning up a battered and bruised Agent May who is tied up in her closet. This means that the May that helped fight Eli and then had a drink with Coulson is a life model decoy. Aida is definitely going to become a big problem if she can create and control LMD’s and has used the power of the Darkhold before.

Overall, this finale episode was fantastic! It was definitely one of the most well done episodes of the first half of the season and, considering how well done almost all of the episodes have been, has me excited for the second half of the season. With Robbie and Eli gone for the moment, it appears that the shift will focus to Aida and her growing knowledge base. She is becoming pretty scary in that she can do a lot of different things and is learning extremely quickly. Aida aside, I also believe that Mace is going to become a bigger threat as time goes on as well. It is obvious that he first and foremost wants to do what is best for himself even at the cost of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the well-being of his agents. I can only imagine that Coulson will not stand for what is happening with his beloved agency for long.

Happy Holidays to everyone and I will be back in the New Year!
