Review – Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “The Ghost”

Hi everyone! As mentioned in my post yesterday, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has also started again this week and, like with the past seasons, started with some setup for what will probably carry through the rest of the season.

Daisy has gone off on her own under the name “Quake” and runs into a band of thugs in Los Angeles whom she was intending to turn in. Before she can do so, however, the one comic fans know as Ghost Rider swoops in and kills all of the group of thugs besides one, whom he kidnaps. Daisy tries to track down and fight Ghost Rider later in the episode, but fails to defeat him. She asks him to kill her, but he refuses. While Daisy is out searching gangs to turn in, both Coulson and Mack are searching for Daisy after the events of last season.

The new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. has forbidden both Mack and Coulson from going after Daisy, but May decides to give them information about her whereabouts. After Coulson and Mack go after Daisy, Simmons finds out that they are searching for her and orders May to have them stopped. May arrives in the spot where Coulson and Mack are searching for Daisy and runs into another gang who have stolen a big box containing an unknown monster who appears to infect those who come into contact with it. We see a shot of the monster appearing behind May, leading us to believe that she may have been infected by it as well.

While this is going on, Fitz has been shown Dr. Radcliffe’s new creation, AIDA, who was created in order to help anyone else from having to die. The android is supposed to be a protector of agents going out into the field. Fitz tells Radcliffe that he is not allowed to tell Simmons about the android until it is perfect as Fitz is unsure how the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. would react to such a creation.

I think that this episode, as per usual with the first episode of the season, did a nice job of setting up what is to come. I like the inclusion of the Ghost Rider as he is not usually a very popular character in the franchise, aside from the terrible movie from a few years back. I will be curious to see if Coulson will make his way back to director as the season progresses and how Daisy will or will not find her way back to being an agent.
