Review – Gotham “Better to Reign in Hell”

Hello everyone! Both Gotham and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. started again this week and as such I am back to reviewing these for you all weekly. These week’s Gotham threw us right back into where we left off at the end of last season. The episode starts with Gordon finding Lee and realizing that she has moved on with someone else. Heartbroken and out of options, Gordon decides to start hunting down those that escaped from Indian Hill. Oswald Cobblepot(Penguin), willing to do whatever to have Fish Mooney destroyed once and for all, puts out a million dollar bounty on Fish’s head, causing Gordon to go after her.

With the help of the new reporter to town, Valerie Vale, Gordon is able to track down Hugo Strange’s assistant, Ethel. While talking to Ethel, Fish Mooney’s goons show up to take Ethel and make her tell them where Huge Strange is. As it turns out, Fish is unable to use her powers without it taking a toll on her life force. The only person who can help her, of course, is Strange and he is currently nowhere to be found. While Fish is questioning Ethel, Ivy shows up to find Selina as Selina has started hanging out with Fish’s group. Fish is unimpressed with Ivy showing up, Fish tells one of her men, the one who can age people rapidly, to kill Ivy. Ivy is chased and touched by the man before falling into a sewage pipe and seemingly being carried away.

Meanwhile, Bruce and Alfred go to a meeting with the Board of Directors at Wayne Enterprises where Bruce threatens to tell everyone about the secret society heading the company if the members of the board involved do not come forward to talk to him. The secret society sends a man to Wayne Manor where Alfred is knocked out cold and Bruce Wayne is kidnapped. The only other small update from this episode is that Barbara and Tabitha have now opened a bar together.

Overall, I thought this was a decent, yet somewhat sporadic, start to season 3. One thing I have learned about Gotham is that it is constantly going at a fast pace where every episode touches on what each character is doing and therefore does not really have enough time to flesh out exactly what is going on. Once again, Bruce has gotten himself into trouble and Gordon seems to be willing to stop at nothing to get the bad guys caught, even at the sake of his own life. I can only imagine where our two heroes are going to go from here along with the rest of the villainous crew alive in this world. Until next time!
