30 DAY VIDEO GAME CHALLENGE – Day 28 – Favorite game developer.

What’s good everyone?  Back in the early days of gaming, there were only a handful of devs making games for the major consoles, but as new platforms have developed and technology has grown, more and more developers have sprung up and the gaming industry has been more heavily populated than ever… whether that’s a good thing or bad thing, I’ll leave that to you to decide. At any rate, amidst the chaos that is the modern game dev scene, there are some definite all-stars of development and for Day 28, we’ll be talking about each of our favorite game developers; mine being Koei Tecmo Games

Koei Tecmo is a merger of Japanese video game companies Koei and Tecmo. Some of their more famous works include the Warriors or “Musou” and the Dead or Alive series. Its subsidiary Team Ninja was also behind the most recent take on Capcom’s Devil May Cry. While not known for any real “Triple A” titles, KT has made some of the most entertaining games out there (to me at least).

Howdy y’all! I wish I could surprise you with who my favorite game developer is but I hate tell you… It’s definitely Bungie.

Ohhhh yes.

This studio pumped out Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, and Reach as well as the original Destiny and Taken King. I admire their dedication to making beautiful, immersive worlds and commitment to constantly improving their games based on fan reactions and those of their own employees. Bungie employees are described as: “simultaneously irreverent and passionately loyal; fiercely self-critical; full of excitement at the company’s achievements, no matter how obscure; [and] recruited from its devoted fanbase“. I think that attitude definitely comes across in their games and I for one enjoy it immensely.

I also like that they survived a merger and split with Microsoft then managed to join forces with Blizzard while maintaining intellectual property rights to any new titles (ahem… Destiny). That shows a real dedication and initiative from the top of the food chain, as well as a commitment to protecting their employees and their work that I admire.

GG Bungie!

Hello everyone! Megan_Highwind here for Day 28! My favorite developer is Square/Squaresoft. While they are now known as Square Enix since Square merged with Enix back in 2003, I contend that the best games from this developer came from before the merger. Some of the amazing titles produced by Squaresoft were Final Fantasy-Final Fantasy X-2, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, Secret of Mana, Romancing SaGa, Xenogears, Parasite Eve, and Kingdom Hearts.

Come back!

Personally, I have felt that ever since the company merged with Enix, the game quality has not been to the level that it was before the merger. Square Enix has created some decent games in its own right, but not anywhere to the level of some of the games listed above. I feel like the company has the opportunity to return to its glory days, so to speak, if they would focus more on what their players want. I am holding out hope for Final Fantasy XV, so we will see if Square Enix can start to pull me in again the way that Square did back in the day.

Salutations friends, James B Boss here with my entry for today’s challenge. While video games can become a commercial success by themselves, it is thanks to the developers that give these games life. While there are so many to go around, my personal favorite is none other than Capcom.

It is thanks to this company, that I was able to play such masterpieces such as, Megaman/Megaman X, the Devil May Cry series, Breath of Fire, Darkstalkers, Monster Hunter and of course Street Fighter. Each of these titles brought me so much joy and I am happy to say, that I am glad to have had the pleasure of being able to experience any of them.
