Review- Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “Paradise Lost”

Hello everyone! Megan_Highwind here! This week’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was one of the most intense episodes of the season. The episode starts with a flashback to  Malick and his brother discussing their father and whether or not he was a true believer of Hydra. It turns out that Malick’s father had avoided being chosen to be the Traveller by keeping a white stone in his copy of the book Paradise Lost. We are then transported back to present day where Malick’s daughter, Stephanie, tells Malick that Hive has gathered the Hydra inner circle to reveal his true self to them.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. – “Paradise Lost” – S.H.I.E.L.D. hunts for information on their dangerous new enemy, and a shameful secret from Malick’s past is exposed, threatening to destroy his Hydra legacy, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” TUESDAY, APRIL 12 (9:00-10:00 p.m. EDT) on the ABC Television Network. Meanwhile, S.H.I.E.L.D. decides to head to a chemical company that Hive has shown interest in while Daisy and Lincoln go to visit Lincoln’s friend James, who was kicked out of Afterlife for stealing. Lincoln offers James a Terrigan crystal in order to become an Inhuman if he gives back the Kree technology that he stole from Afterlife. After James hands over the item, Lincoln then goes back on his word to change James into an Inhuman and James reveals that Lincoln almost murdered his last girlfriend. After Lincoln explains what happened what his last girlfriend, Daisy reveals to him that she has seen a vision of someone on the S.H.I.E.L.D. team dying.

While Daisy and Lincoln are visiting James, the other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents have managed to infiltrate the chemical facility and capture Malick’s second in command, Giyera. Based on evidence found at the facility, Simmons is able to decipher that Hive is a parasite that keeps the memories of the bodies that he has taken over and reveals this information to Coulson. Giyera escapes from the containment unit that he was being kept in and takes control of the ship where the agents are knocked out cold. Before being knocked out, May is able to tell Daisy of the situation. Because of this, Lincoln and Daisy decide to call the secret warriors.

Hive reveals his true self to the inner circle and tells Stephanie that her father has been using the white stone to stop himself from becoming the Traveller, just like his father had done. It turns out that Malick betrayed his brother, Nathaniel, and instead of picking the stone to travel himself, let his brother be chosen instead. As Hive keeps the memories of any body he has inhabited, he contains Nathaniel’s memories. In order to teach Malick to never betray him again, Hive kills Stephanie.

To me, this week’s episode was one of the best of the season. Not only where we able to find out quite a bit of information about Hive, but things are finally starting to move forward in terms of S.H.I.E.L.D. actively trying to stop Hive and Hydra from moving forward. As Giyera took over the ship with all of the agents besides Daisy and Lincoln, I am excited to see next week’s episode to see the secret warriors go to work to try to save the team. On the other end, now that Hive has taken Malick’s daughter from him, it will be interesting to see if he continues to follow Hive’s lead or if he starts to distance himself further as Hive continues to grow in power. Things get more and more interesting every episode as it appears that Hive and Hydra are getting so powerful that S.H.I.E.L.D. has little chance of stopping them without some serious repercussions. As Daisy said, someone this season is going to die. Who that will be and how it will happen will be interesting see!
