Hello everyone! Megan_Highwind here with my review of this week’s episode of Gotham. Jim Gordon has been on a war path in the last few episodes to find the real killer of the police officer whose death he was blamed for. With the help of Bullock, Gordon finds a tape with the recording of the call that was placed that led to Gordon’s arrest. Gordon decides to take the tape to Ed Nygma as he believes that Nygma is the best person to help decipher the voice of the person who made the phone call.
When Gordon goes to visit Nygma, he is quickly able to deduce that Nygma is the one who framed Gordon for the murder. Nygma electrocutes Gordon and tries to take him to the woods and kill him. Luckily, Gordon makes his escape and uses help from Selina and Bruce Wayne to set Nygma up so that he is caught by the GCPD for the murder of Kristen Kringle. Nygma admits to Gordon that he was the one who framed Gordon, not knowing that the GCPD is standing by listening to the entire conversation. Nygma is arrested and placed in Arkham Asylum for his crimes. Gordon then gets his job offered back to him, but declines as he is on a mission to help Bruce Wayne find out who hired his parents’ deaths.
Meanwhile, Penguin figures out that his step mother is the one who poisoned his father. In order to retaliate, he kills his step mother’s children and feeds them to her before killing her himself. Barbara is released from prison for an experiment that Dr. Hugo Strange wants to run wherein he observes Barbara in the real world as he knows she is not as sane as she is now pretending to be. Finally, Bruce is given a choice between following in his father’s footsteps of working to make the city better or having some sort of life with Selina Kyle. Bruce chooses his father’s work and a rift is formed between him and Selina.
Overall, this week’s episode was one that was full of satisfying yet horrifying moments. It was a huge payoff to see Ed Nygma finally getting his due for setting Gordon up after the amount of confidence he had that he would never get caught. On the other end of the spectrum, it was terrifying to see just how bad Penguin can really be after seeing so many episodes where he was trying so hard to be better. I am excited to see Penguin’s eventual rise back into power on the villains side and see Bruce start to come more and more into his own. Hopefully, Gordon will also be able to figure out the truth behind the Wayne’s murders and find Lee again.
