Review – Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. “Chaos Theory”

This week’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was an action packed one. We finally got the back story of how Andrew became Lash and the ramifications of it in Melinda and his relationship. Also, things are getting pretty steamy between Coulson and Rosalind.

The episode starts by showing Andrew and Melinda May in Hawaii on a vacation. When they return home from the vacation, Andrew opens a book that contains a Terrigen crystal and gives him the power of Lash. May, finding the information from Von Strucker that Andrew is Lash last episode, comes to the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility to confront Andrew. Unfortunately, Andrew has taken one of the new recruits to an off-site facility to be “tested for field duty”. Agent May worries that Andrew is going to kill the recruit and hurries to find them. Upon finding Andrew, May tries to confront him but Andrew loses control and ends up tying May up to prevent from hurting her. He lets her know that he broke off their relationship to protect her, but is still in love with her. The others break in on the conversation and after disobeying Coulson’s orders to simply be part of the watch while he confronts Andrew, Lincoln fires his lightning at Andrew causing him to turn into Lash. Melinda ends up having to shoot Lash back into the containment unit to prevent him from hurting anyone.

While all of this is going on, Daisy has confronted Coulson about the events at the ATCU facility and tries to tell him that she does not like that people like her are being frozen. Coulson argues against Daisy and tries to convince her that it is for the best that Inhumans who cannot yet contain their powers be put in this frozen state. This puts even more of a rift between Daisy and Rosalind as normally Coulson is Daisy’s side with these types of things. While fighting Lash later at the facility, Daisy actually ends up saving Rosalind with her earthquake powers which proves Daisy’s point that not all Inhumans deserve to be put under ice.

Besides those two main storylines, we get a little more insight on Bobbi and Hunter when Bobbi tells Hunter that she no longer wants him to go after Ward for fear that he may get hurt or killed. She does not want to see him die trying to seek revenge. Fitz and Simmons are working together to get the images and videos from Simmons’ cell phone to see if there are any clues as to how to get Will back. The two share a moment watching the sunrise as Fitz reveals that he has an idea of how to save Will. The episode ends with Malick and Ward sitting in a room together with Ward discussing how he is ready to kill Coulson and get rid of S.H.I.E.L.D. for good. Malick gets a call during the conversation and it is revealed that Rosalind is actually working with Malick and the scene ends showing that Coulson and Rosalind have become more than just friends.

Overall, this was a pretty fast paced episode. It is good to see the storylines starting to come together more and I am excited to hear Fitz’s plan to get Will back from the desolate planet Simmons was stuck on. I had a feeling Rosalind was not an entirely trustworthy character and I am sure her new romantic involvement with Coulson will end up getting Coulson in a bad situation in the future. Ward seems intent on revenge and Malick will more than likely deliver Coulson to Ward at the hands of Rosalind. Also, now that May and Andrew have had a heard to heart and then May had to shoot Andrew, it will be interesting to see how their relationship continues, if it does at all.
