This week’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was not quite as exciting as this week’s Gotham, but it was still a good episode none the less. The episode starts with mention of the Theta Protocol and Skye trying to decide between whether she still wants to be an agent, or whether she wants to just go back to Afterlife and stay there with her parents. Coulson speaks to Gonzalez about what happened in Sokovia with the Avengers and lets him and the others know that he would like to be the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. It seems as if a battle is brewing within S.H.I.E.L.D. itself as it is being torn different ways with different people wanting to be in charge.
Raina is coming to see that she can use her visions to her advantage. She saw something Kree that is from 100 years ago that she insists her and Gordon need to find as it could lead to a huge disadvantage for the Inhumans(what those from Afterlife call themselves). Gordon and Raina teleport to find the object and it happens to be aboard the ship that S.H.I.E.L.D. is on. Gordon and Raina are unable to get the item that both S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra were looking for. Meanwhile, Coulson wants Skye to set up a meeting with Jaiying so that they can work out peace. Raina tells Gordon that she is worried about S.H.I.E.L.D. coming to Afterlife as she says that she has a vision of it in flames because of them coming.
Instead of sending Coulson, Gonzalez is the one chosen to meet with Jaiying because unlike Coulson, he is a party that does not have any attachment to Skye like Coulson does. While this is going on, Mack lets Coulson know that he is quitting S.H.I.E.L.D. because he cannot trust someone with alien blood running through his veins. Agent 33 and Ward also get the upper hand on Bobbi when Agent 33 disguises herself as May. Ward has something planned that involves Bobbi that we do not know of yet. Gonzalez tells Jaiying that all they are wanting to do is index the people of Afterlife, that is to write down what powers they hold in order to help keep track of them and keep them safe. Jaiying does not take kindly to this as she pulls out a crystal that turns Gonzalez to stone and proceeds to shoot herself to make it look like Gonzalez did it. The episode ends with her pledging war against S.H.I.E.L.D.
Overall, this episode was not really that exciting, but it seems to be setting up for things to really get crazy in the next episode. It looks like Ward and Agent 33 will do something involving Bobbi to get back at S.H.I.E.L.D. while Jaiying and the others at Afterlife will be preparing for a war against S.H.I.E.L.D that will put Skye right in the middle. I am excited to see what happens next week!
