This week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was a quality addition to the series, in my opinion. I love the pace of this season in general, and this episode was no exception as the team was once again split up to deal with finding Raina before Whitehall and Hydra did while simultaneously searching for more information and finding the hidden city before Hydra could gather the location.
Things for the extraction team including Agent May, Skye, the Koening brothers, and Tripp seem to be going well in the beginning but end in a very dicey situation. In the beginning, the team is confused as to why exactly Hydra wants Raina alive, but things become much clearer as the episode goes on. There is a long conversation between Skye and Raina about Skye’s past and her father. Considering how much Raina seems to know about everything, it was interesting to hear her side of what is going on and how Skye’s father, in her eyes, is not the monster everyone else thinks him to be. The scene between this group ends as Ward makes his grand reappearance onto the bus to steal away Raina to work towards gaining access to the city. While he is at it, he also decides to grab Skye since his obsession with her cannot seem to be quelled. Needless to say, things are looking less than stellar for the crew at this point.
On the other side, Coulson, Fitz, Simmons, Mac, and Bobbi are all in charge of figuring out the best way to get into the hidden city and destroy it before Hydra has the chance to level the area searching for it. Coulson posing as a tourist with Bobbi was a funny addition to me as it just shows how calm and collected Coulson can be in times of crisis and proves once again why he is such a great leader to the team and, as Bobbi points out, how much he differs from Fury. Fitz and Simmons have a heart to heart moment and the scene with this group ends as Mac is lowered into the route to the hidden city and has a weird reaction to what is located down there. Similarly to the above group, things are not looking to be going well for this team either.
Overall, I liked this week’s episode quite a bit. I thought the pacing was good, the action was fast-paced, and the level of character development in just this episode alone was great. Next week’s finale is shaping up to be a nail-biter so be sure to tune in!
