Review – Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: “A Fractured House”

I apologize for my late review this week of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D “A Fractured House”, this week has been crazy for me! This episode took what I said I wanted more of last week and gave me just that. This is two episodes now where I have stated that I wanted more of something and it was delivered and I am impressed. May’s hand to hand combat was my first wish, and this time around it was more of a focus on Agent Ward. Ward has been in containment since his treachery was revealed towards the end of last season. This time around we are given an insight into more of Ward’s family history in the words of his older brother, Christian. Ward insists to the team that this particular brother of his is the one who made him torture his younger brother back when they were children, but Christian states that Ward is lying and leaves the audience unsure of exactly whom we should trust. It will be interesting to see if the show actually gives us the entire truth about Ward’s backstory and his relationship with his brothers, but this whole thing with Ward not being entirely fleshed out like some of the other characters is part of what I find so compelling about his whole involvement in this season.

Other than the main story with Ward, there is a nice scene between Fitz and Simmons that makes me feel for the characters. It is obvious that both of them were suffering without the other one in their life, especially in the case of Fitz, but now that they are back together it is almost like they have no idea how to even be close anymore. Fitz rightfully holds some resentment for Simmons for leaving him in his time of need, but Simmons has her own reasons for doing what she did. Seeing their relationship for the rest of the season is another thing that I am looking forward to. The final point I would like to hit on is the relationship between Hunter and Bobbi (Mockingbird). It was revealed last week that they were once married and she is the woman that has been known as the she-devil that Hunter always talked poorly about, but there is no denying that there is something strong between the two of them still. Overall, this was another strong episode in support of my being back on board with this show. As we get further into the season, I hope this upward spiral continues!
