Year End Gaming!

Hello loyal readers! Megan Highwind back again to bring you another article here at Disk Read Error. This week, I am going to be discussing the games I am most excited about between now and the end of the year. There are going to be A LOT of awesome games coming out in the next few months and even more coming out next year. Today, I will be focusing solely on titles coming out by December and may later on do an article regarding the titles beginning in January.  There are two titles that I am most excited to play by year end, but please share with us if you have any you think are worth a look! We always love to hear feedback and I am generally curious as to what other gamers are going to be playing! The first game I am excited to play is going to be coming out in the very near future, this Friday to be exact and it involves menacing man in black.

Uh no... not THAT man in black.

Of course, I am speaking of Batman: Arkham Origins developed by Warner Brothers games. Those of you who do not know me need to know one thing before I begin. I love Batman! I have always adored the characters and he is by far my favorite superhero.

Last night, I dreamed I held you in my arms.

This does not mean that I turn a blind eye to bad Batman adaptations (Batman and Robin, anyone?), but I am more inclined to try something when Batman is involved and I am definitely glad I chose to start this series. Arkham Asylum took a great concept and brought it to life and Arkham City made it even better. I can only expect, therefore, that Origins will be the best of the best. Origins will take place before either of the previous titles and will pit Batman against some well-known and lesser known foes including Deadshot, Bane, the Riddler, and of course the Joker. In addition to new and old villains, Batman will have new weapons at his disposal which I am expecting to add a lot more depth to his already large arsenal of fun. I am also thrilled at the inclusion of multiplayer and cannot wait to delve into it. Being able to play as both Batman and Robin, Bane and cronies, or Joker and his men in this new mode will bring a whole new challenge level and replay value to the game, if done correctly.  I am also wondering how the team at Warner Brothers will set up the origin of the Arkham series and develop Batman’s relationship with all of the various characters they have included. All in all, I cannot wait to get back to beating up the baddies of Gotham!  Like the Arkham series, the other title that caught my eye is one that is a part of a larger bunch of games. The title that I am speaking of involves another loner type who instead of wearing a black suit prefers to wear a hood and perform an amazing swan dive off of all types of buildings.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is the other title that has caught my eye for the end of the year releases. Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed titles have taken place at many different times and places including Ancient Rome, Civil War ridden America, and now the open seas. I will be the first to admit that I did not really enjoy captaining the ship in Assassin’s Creed III. However, the concept of being a ship’s captain and controlling the crew and where you get to explore holds a lot of interest to me. I may not have enjoyed battling other ships, mostly the steering if I am being totally honest, but I think I could easily overlook this fact if the gameplay is solid and the characters encountered are interested and well fleshed out. Besides that, it looks as though unlike with the previous Assassin’s Creed title the player will be doing more on the ship than simply battling others. I have been playing this franchise since the beginning and I quite enjoy sneaking around and silently taking down a foe or running straight into a battle with swords blazing. The storyline also intrigues me as Edward Kenway is the much hated Haytham from Assassin’s Creed III’s father. I love seeing the origins of characters and their ancestors and expect the story to be as well fleshed out as Ezio and Altair’s stories were.  I also enjoy being brought back to the current day with Abstergo and now that Desmond is no longer a character where Abstergo fits into the story. The pirate themed storyline and the new additions to the gameplay make me excited to climb back into the world of Assassin’s Creed and once again jump off the 100+ viewpoints that inevitably need to be reached!

As always please read, review, and share, and feel free to let us know your thoughts on the titles you are looking most foward to in the near future!
