Hello all! Lady here. Since I can’t seem to get “This is Halloween” out of my head, I assume Halloween is drawing near, which makes me recall all the gaming moments that have scared me through the years. You all should know, for reference, that I scare easily. I’m a total ‘scaredy-cat’, if you will. I went to see “The Woman in Black” in theaters and still can’t really say I have seen it since, well, my eyes were covered by my sweater for 90% of the movie and I left thinking I was going to have a heart attack. Apparently, according to the masses, that movie wasn’t even scary so go figure. That being said games tend to not frighten me as much as you’d think. Sure, there are scary moments that make me want to cry, but overall I have no issues playing through a horror game while I have major issues watching a horror movie. I enjoy a good, scary game here and there. It’s fun and if the game is well done it just adds to the mood. Still, one image usually comes to mind when ‘scary’ and ‘game’ fall into the same sentence:
Amnesia: The Dark Decent. Now I played this awhile back and had the privilege to stream it live to some friends. I tried hard to not get too startled throughout this game, but I must say it was definitely difficult. I fall prey to the typical jump scares, and strangely this game has only a few of those. It’s more the “Oh god, what is that thing, why is it looking at me, I’M GOING TO DIE” kind of scares. I mean look at that thing up there. Imagine that thing looking at you while you slowly become insane and then kill you for looking back at it. I’m getting scared just talking about it. The game is basically about a man suffering from amnesia (who’d have thought) who is trying to regain his memory while trying to stay sane in the creepy estate he is in, which is home to those creepy things seen above. The whole ambiance of the game is just frightening and intense. It’s very dark, and if you don’t light the way you start going insane while hearing strange noises and seeing strange things. That looker up there isn’t even the only thing that is terrifying. There’s also a monster that hangs out in water and attacks you as you walk in it. Did I mention he is invisible? Well he is. The only way to get past him is to stand on boxes and throw dismembered body parts in the water for the dude to eat while you run for your life.
Needless to say, playing through this game was one of the most frightening in game experiences of my life. But it was great and to be honest I’ve been wanting to replay it. Maybe I’m just getting in the spirit of the holiday, or maybe I’m going insane too? Huh. That was supposed to be a joke, now it’s freaking me out. Ciao friends!
